LEGISLATURE CREATES FAMILY DIVISION OF CIRCUIT COURT
Effective January 1, 1999, each circuit court in Michigan will have a family division that will hear cases dealing with nearly every aspect of family law, from divorce, child and spousal support and child custody, to child abuse and neglect, paternity and delinquency. Each division will include judges from both the probate and circuit courts. Judges will serve in that division for the balance of their terms (typically six years).
In Wayne County, the twelve current judges of the Family Division are:

- Charlene Elder
- Richard Halloran, Jr.
- Amy P. Hathaway
- Muriel D. Hughes
- Arthur Lombard
- Kathleen McCarthy
- Maria L. Oxholm

- Richard M. Skutt
In Oakland County, the eight current judges of the Family Division are:
- James M. Alexander
- Martha D. Anderson
- Leo Bowman
- Linda S. Hallmark
- Cheryl Mathers
